MONTREAL - As expected, Nicolas Macrozonaris of Laval, Que., kicked off the local indoor track and field season by winning the 60-metre sprint at the McGill Open at Richard Tomlinson Fieldhouse, Saturday.

The 26-year-old member of the Canadian national team, who trains with the Saint-Laurent Selects track club, completed the race in 6.78 seconds, short of the Fieldhouse record (6.56) he set in 2002. Pierre-Hans Horacius of the Perfmax track club finished second in 6.90, followed by McGill's David Faille (7.03) of St. Hilaire, Que.

In the women's 60m, McGill's Maryse Dubreuil of Montreal, Que., captured gold in 8.00 seconds. It was a fast early season time for the 22-year-old physical therapy junior, who missed the school record (7.73) established by Ria Bradshaw in 2002.

McGill also captured gold in the women's high jump, with Halifax native Alyson McPhee, a freshman who jumped 1.55 metres. McPhee is the daughter of former Montreal Canadiens captain Mike McPhee.
