McGill's Flynn named rookie of the year

PAPINEAUVILLE, Que. - Sherbrooke's Alex Genest was named athlete of the year after winning the 10k race in 30:09 and lead the Vert & Or to the Quebec university men's cross-country championship in muddy conditions at Papineauville, Que., about 70 kilometres east of Ottawa, Saturday.
Following Genest on the podium were teammates Francois Menard-Kilrane (30:18) and Ferdinand Buzingo (30:29).
Sherbrooke won the meet with 17 points with finishers in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 7th place, followed by McGill (49), Laval (57) and Concordia (107).
The Redmen were led by freshman Sebastien Flynn of Dartmouth, N.S., who came in fourth (30:33). Flynn, a 19-year-old who was McGill's top scorer in five meets overall, was voted as the conference's rookie of the year.
Other scorers for McGill included Stephen Douglas (8th, 30:54) of Pictou, N.S., James Young (9th, 30:55) of London. Ont., Antony Orth (12th, 31:38) of Vancouver, B.C., and Graydon Snider (15th, 31:45) of Montreal.
