The McGill cross country teams start the championships portion of their season this coming weekend. The Quebec Provincial Champaionships will take place Saturday on the Plains of Abraham.
The McGill Martlets are the heavy favorite coming into the meet and have not lost to another squad in the province this fall. The Martlets are lead by a quartet of women. Rookie Caroline Pfister has been the #1 runner for the majority of the season followed by Jessica Porfilio, Madeleine Cummings and Sarah McCuaig. Strong runs will be need by Evelyn Anderson, Jullien Flynn and Madeleine Williams to minimize the score and maximize the distance between the Martlets with the likes of Sherbrooke and Laval.
A year after a gutsy 3rd place finish at the provincial championships, the McGill Redman are much improved but will need a solid run in order to improve their placing. The Rouge et Or of Laval look to be the odds on favorite, leaving McGill to fight it out with Sherbrooke for their chance to compete at the CIS championships.
The Redmen are lead by rookie Ben Raymond, who looks primed to battle it out for one of the topp 4 individual spots. McGill will need strong runs from Michael Abrahamson, Alex Ray, Vincent Parent-Pinchette and Charles Litwin if they hope to give the Vert et Or a challenge.
