The McGill women's cross country team started the 2012 season off in fine fashion Saturday taking home team honors at the McGill XC Open. The Martlets, who finished 5th last year at the national meet, scored a 10 point victory over the University of Western Ontario Mustangs, 32-42.
The women's 4k individual race title was taken by Amanda Truelove of Western (14:09) followed by McGill's 2011 Team MVP, Jessica Porfilio (2nd, 14:15) and newcomer Caroline Pfister (3rd, 14:23). The Martlets' top 7 runners all finished with in the first 21 places: Madeliene Cummings (6th, 14:29), Sarah McCuaig (8th, 14:30), Evelyn Anderson (16th, 14:48), Jullien Flynn (19th, 14:55) & Madeleine Williams (21st. 15:03).
On the men's side, the Redmen looked much stronger on the mountain's 6k course than one year ago. Led by rookie Benjamin Raymond's second place finish, the men's team came through with a runner-up finish behind the Western Ontario (28-78). Ryan Noel-Hodge of Concordia was the winner of the men's race with a time of 18:55. Athletes comprising the Top 7 for the Redmen included: Raymond (2nd, 19:04 ), Charles Litwin (16th, 19:56), Alexander Ray (18th, 20:02), Michael Abramson (24th 20:07), Vincent Parent-Pichette (26th, 20:12), Erik Demers (40th, 20:53) & Reda Sarhani (48th, 21:11).
