Day 2 Recap: 2008 CIS track and field championships FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NOTE: THE SCHEDULE OF EVENTS FOR DAY 3 HAS BEEN INCLUDED IN THIS REVISION

MONTREAL (CIS) - Marie-Eve Dugas of the Sherbrooke Vert & Or and Sam Effah of the Calgary Dinos each won their second gold medal in as many days as three fieldhouse records fell on Day 2 of the CIS track and field championships, Friday.

The University of Western Ontario has a nine-point lead over Guelph, among the 22 CIS institutions competing on the women's side, while Guelph tops the men's division, with a four-point lead over Windsor and Alberta, heading into Saturday, the final day of competition at Richard Tomlinson Fieldhouse on the campus of McGill University.

Complete schedules and live results are available online at www.cisport.ca/e/championships/track/2008 or www.athletics.mcgill.ca.

Dugas, a fourth-year transfer from Repentigny, Que., won the 60-metre hurdles in 8.35 seconds. On Thursday, the CIS female athlete of the year won the 60m sprint. She went undefeated in both events throughout the indoor season.

Effah, a sophomore from Calgary, topped the men's 300-metre race in 34.23. He won the 60m on Thursday, a few hours after being named as the CIS male athlete of the year.

Saskatchewan's Adrianne Vangool won the women's pole vault with a height of 4.00m, breaking her own Tomlinson Fieldhouse mark (3.95) established at the CIS championships last year.

Fieldhouse marks also toppled in both 4x800 relays, with Windsor winning the women's race in 8:55.22 and Victoria taking the men's race in 7:30.83.

The Windsor quartet was composed of Amanda Mokedanz in the leadoff position, followed by Melissa Bishop, Jessica Reid and Hannah Eberhard.

Running for the victorious Vikes relay was Johannes Mallie, followed by Richard Lehman, Geoff Martinson and Darren Mazzei.

Sean Steacy, from the Lethbridge Pronghorns, was golden in the men's weight throw with a toss of 20.62m. He becomes the third family member to win the CIS gold in the weight throw. Older brother Jim has four gold medals in that event and younger sister Heather won her second consecutive CIS gold in the event on Thursday.

Other Day 2 men's gold medalists included Laval's Tommy Lecours, the CIS male rookie of the year, who was first in the 1000m (2:24.93), Windsor's Andrew Coates (3000, 8:20.06), U of T's Mark Stewart (60m hurdles, 8.10 seconds) and Mark Dillon (high jump, 2.11m), plus Western Ontario's Andrew Judge (long jump, 7.29). Judge was honoured Thursday as the top CIS performer in field events.

Also winning gold for the women was Calgary's Amonn Nelson (300m, 38.23), Windsor's Hannah Eberhard (1000m, 2:50.01), Guelph teammates Steph Jackson (shot put, 13.77m) and Lindsay Carson (3000m, 9:41.19), plus Regina's Janine Polischuk (long jump, 5.96m). On Thursday, Carson, a biological engineering freshman was named CIS rookie of the year, while Polischuk earned the CIS top field performer award.

Résumé Jour 2: championnats d'athlétisme de SIC 2008
7 mars 2008
