Young lead Redmen charges to fourth at Laval Open Oct 13, 07 Cross Country (M)

QUEBEC CITY (Oct. 13, 2007) - James Young of London, Ont., finished sixth of 49 men as McGill came in fourth of five teams at the Laval Open cross-country running meet on the Plaines of Abraham, Saturday.

McGill also placed runners in 10th, 14th, 16th and 17th to score 63 total points. Sherbrooke won a close competition with 48, followed by the University of Connecticut (55), Laval (56), McGill (63) and Concordia (135).

On the women's side, McGill was first of four teams led by a second-place finish from senior Lauren Whyte.

Young, a 5-foot-9 senior, completed the eight-kilometre course in 25 minutes and nine seconds. Sherbrooke posted a one-two finish with James Poulin-Cadovius winning the race in 24:30, followed by teammate Francois Menard-Kilrane (24:46) and Connecticut's Aaron Wheeler (24:51).

Other scorers for McGill included junior Graydon Snider (10th, 25:43) of Montreal, senior Stephen Douglas (14th, 26:04) of Pictou, N.S., freshman Sébastien Flynn (16th, 26:16) of Dartmouth, N.S., and senior Antony Orth (17th, 26:23) of Vancouver.

With four races completed, the Redmen will now prepare for the Quebec conference championship meet on Oct. 27.
