Whyte, Anthony named McGill athletes of the week Oct 30, 07 Cross Country (W)

MONTREAL -- Lauren Whyte of Belleville, Ont., and Sean Anthony of Vancouver, B.C., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 28, 2007.

Whyte, a member of the women's cross-country running team, finished first of 39 runners as McGill captured the Quebec university championship at Papineauville, Que., Saturday. Whyte, a 21-year-old political science senior, completed the five-kilometre course in 17 minutes, 42 seconds, some eight seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. She was named as the Quebec conference athlete of the year and earned a spot on the league all-star team.

Anthony, a 6-foot-4 power forward on the basketball Redmen, was named to the all-tournament team at the Western Purple & White invitational in London, Ont. The 21-year-old physical education senior scored 54 points and grabbed 19 rebounds in three games. He shot 57.9 per cent from the free-throw line (11/19), 43.2 from the floor (19/44) and 62.5 from three-point range (5/8). Anthony was also credited with seven steals, seven assists and one blocked shot.
