Whyte leads charges to victory on Plains of AbrahamOct 13, 07 Cross Country (W)

Quebec City, QC (Oct. 13, 2007) - Lauren Whyte of Belleville, Ont., finished second of 41 women as McGill captured the Laval Open cross-country running meet on the Plains of Abraham, Saturday.
It was the second consecutive meet title for the Martlets, who also won the Sherbrooke Open on Sept. 29. McGill placed runners in the second, fourth, fifth, eighth and 11th spots to score 30 total points. Sherbrooke was second with 40, followed by Laval (71) and Concordia (99).
On the men's side, James Young was sixth as McGill finished fourth of five teams in a race won by Sherbrooke.
Whyte, a political science senior, was clocked in 14 minutes and 15 seconds, some 11 seconds off the pace of race winner Annie Riopel Meunier, a member of the Vert & Or who completed the four-kilometre course in 14:04. Concordia's Sarah Burger won bronze in 14:19.
Other scorers for McGill included senior Elspeth McGregor (4th, 14:34) of Vernon, B.C., junior Trish Muddiman (5th, 14:40) of Sarnia, Ont., senior Deenie Quinn (8th, 15:05) of Westfield, N.J., and senior Deborah Lightman (11th, 15:15) of Toronto.
With four races completed, the Martlets will now prepare for the Quebec conference championship meet on Oct. 27.
